Here's the scoop
Professional background for Teresa Schmedding
By Teresa Schmedding
News Editor

I started at the Daily Herald as a copy editor in 1990. Since then, I've held positions as metro news editor, assistant news editor and, finally, news editor.

With more than 20 zones and a circulation of 150,000, the Herald is the fifth fastest growing newspaper in the country, making it an exciting place to work. Last year, we redesigned the Herald, and this year, we're building a new printing facility and converting to a 50-inch web.

The Daily Herald is one of the few independent and locally owned newspapers left in this country. Hosea C. Paddock started the company more than 120 years ago with the motto, "To fear God, tell the truth and make money." Four generations of Paddocks built a chain of weekly newspapers into the Daily Herald, the third largest newspaper in Illinois.

Missouri University Education: Graduated with a bachelor's in journalism from University of
Missouri-Columbia. Currently working on master's degree in media management.
American Copy Editors Society ACES contributions: Headed up sessions on coping with change, do-it-yourself
training and copy desk structures for papers with several editions; contributed several articles to the newsletter; currently helping organize the 2003 conference in Chicago and a Midwest chapter for ACES.
