2010 Convention - Hotel discount
All:
I was just making reservations through Orbitz and it offered a prepaid package at the Lowes that is significantly cheaper and might help some folks make budget.
From Columbia, including my $494 flight, I paid $838 for the flight and hotel. I figure that at $115 a night for the room, all taxes included.
I know we want to book under ACES as much as possible because of the deal regarding convention space, but if this would encourage some to come who otherwise might not (or who, in my case, are under severe state budget restrictions), that would be a good thing.
I had been planning to stay in a fleabitten Travelodge four blocks away, but getting to stay in the convention hotel is a good thing.
I don't know how long it will be up there or if it is being offered everywhere, but it might be worth searching for. It is prepaid with cancellation fee charges.

Everyone whose room is being paid for should ignore this and use up the ACES rooms, but I booked two nights under the ACES rate and two nights under a prepaid 45-day advance rate offered on the Web site. It's around $130 a night and nonrefundable, and it's only available for the weekend -- Friday and Saturday nights.

I'm told the $130 rate for the 45-day advance no longer comes up on the Web site. I guess they're on to us. Sorry to get your hopes up.

I just booked last night/early this morning. I'm staying six days because who knows when I will get to come back Philly.
With my flight from Tyler via Dallas and the six nights, I paid about $1,000.
The room comes out to about $115 a night with taxes.
I'm paying for it myself, but at least my paper is covering the conference fee.
