Conference topics

Postby LisaMc » 8:26 pm 08/24/2010

Hi all,
I'm here to ask two questions of you, both related to conferences.
1. ACES is planning two regional one-day training workshops this fall, and more are in the works for next year. One of the regionals this fall is at Penn State, and we're still setting the program. The sessions will include general editing topics, a student session or two, and perhaps a session for freelancers -- if enough of you are interested and would attend. If you think this is a good idea and would attend this workshop, please let me know.
2. Also, I'm getting the program for the 2011 national conference in Phoenix together, and would love to get suggestions for sessions -- as well as suggestions for presenters. If you have an idea for session or for a presenter, or would be interested in presenting a session yourself, please let me know.
You can send me e-mail at lisamc (at) copydesk.org.
Thanks!
Lisa

I'm always glad to talk about freelancing from a variety of angles - getting started, building/expanding one's business, websites, etc. - but locations like Arizona are an issue (I'm in upstate NY) if the organization won't pay expenses. I organize and manage a conference for freelancers here in my hometown (www.communication-central.com) and we cover transportation and hotel accommodations for speakers, even though that means the event creates next-to-no profit. I've always thought large organizations could and should do the same.
