Joshua Barone

Joshua Barone is a senior at the University of Missouri, with a double major in journalism and French. He spent the summer as a Dow Jones intern at the Wall Street Journal, and won the Ed Trayes scholarship, awarded to the top News Fund intern. He is assistant news editor of the Columbia Missourian and previously was editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The Maneater.

From his application: “Readers’ trust with newspapers is too fragile to allow for sloppy editing. When my name is attached to a publication, I work to make sure the content I edit is next to perfection. Part of that might be a compulsion — I admittedly am a bit of a perfectionist — but in all honesty, I just love what I do.”

Judge’s comment: “Josh has made the most of his college experience to develop a well-rounded arsenal of editorial skills. His experience as a reporter gives him valuable perspective when editing other writers’ work, and his stint as a web producer adds an increasingly important and marketable skill. And a ‘highly enthusiastic’ recommendation from Ed Trayes is certainly not to be taken lightly.”
