Robin Kawakami

Robin Kawakami, a 2009 graduate, is a Web editor at The Wall Street Journal, a job she began this past summer as an intern and was so good the Journal asked her to stay on. Kawakami has not traveled the traditional road of a student-turned-copy editor. Kawakami was preparing for a career as a business journalist through studies in Europe when her Wall Street Journal internship changed the course of her career, she says.

Being on the copy desk let her witness “the impact that editors have in shaping the stories that reach millions of readers every day.” She adds, “I know for the first time in my life what it means to enjoy my work.” Ed Trayes, director of the master of journalism program at Temple University, where Kawakami completed an editing residency, said Kawakami “has what it takes.” And Michael Boone, night editor at the Wall Street Journal, called Robin “a prototype for what we need to survive as an industry.”
