ACES has selected five winners for its 2008-09 scholarships: Audrey Kuo, UCLA Rachel Hanson, University of Utah; Kristen Huth, Penn State; Benjamin Karp, Vanderbilt University; and Anna Young, James Madison University.
As the top candidate, Kuo was named the Aubespin scholar and given $2,500; the other winners each received $1,000. In addition, all winners were given free registration to ACES’ 2008 National Conference in Minneapolis.
The winners were selected from a group of 20 applicants, judged by five professional copy editors: Doug Criss of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution; Lourdes Fernandez of Newsday; Henry Fuhrmann of the Los Angeles Times; Craig Lancaster of the Billings Gazette; and Colleen Pauley Wright of The Columbus Dispatch. The judges’ recommendations were approved by the board of the ACES Education Foundation.
The 2007 scholarships bring the total awarded to 44 since 1999.
