Katie Schwing attended journalism school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, during which time she completed internships at The New York Times News Service (through the Dow Jones News Fund) and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. She spent about three years on the night news desk at The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo., before switching fields. She now edits, designs, and lays out reports for a military master planning/engineering firm. She is a recipient of the 2005-06 scholarship.
