Charlie Elkins of the Winston-Salem Journal is retiring.
His last day is Dec. 31. His daughter, who is a freelance web designer and worked for awhile at the paper, came up with this tribute to her father:
www.charlieretires.com
He is a dyed-in-the-wool old-style copy editor who once described his job at the paper as "a policeman of sorts," making sure everyone obeyed typographical, grammatical and style standards. Those who have worked with him and for him surely have lots of stories to tell.
We will miss him!
