How has the nominee contributed to ACES?
David is seeking a second full term as secretary after having been on the board since 2005. He was newsletter editor for four years and presented at many conferences. He organized a Northeast Regional and recently presented at a boot camp in Washington. He has represented ACES on campuses and at professional gatherings.
What makes the nominee the best candidate for this position?
Having done the job he is conversant with the bylaws, election procedures, and the past actions of the board as recorded in minutes.
If elected, what does the nominee envision for ACES during his or her tenure?
ACES will continue to grow through reaching out to copy editors in all fields. However, as paid sites and tablet apps become more important for news organizations, ACES must again reach out to copy editors in journalism and not lose sight that it was created to address their needs, particularly for visibility within their organizations.
The recession seems to be ending, but it has left behind a changed media landscape. Assuming ACES continues to be financially stable, what is the most important thing the group should spend some money toward achieving?
To an old-world dinosaur like myself it is constantly amazing the response ACES gets to webinars, e-blasts, and social media. People involve themselves with us in ways we never would have seen before. The trick is to make sure that we continue to meet their needs as they exist now and then get their financial support for what we do.
