Biography
Brady designs 1A and the local section, does features when needed; and copy edits inside and section front stories as needed. He has been a member of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln chapter for five years, serving as its president. He has promoted the Dow Jones program, strongly encouraged others to attend the national conferences, and helped set up a regional conference.
Brady seeks a first term on the board. He sees himself as a younger candidate with experiences from all sides of journalism. He is excited about the future of journalism, and copy editing and design specifically. He likes how ACES has evolved in the last five years. Besides expanding its definition of editing, he would like to see greater involvement with students and young people through ever-expanding technology.
ACES’ question to candidate
Board members must show a commitment to the organization’s goals, which center on better serving and increasing the membership, and keeping ACES financially sound. Everyone’s skills and styles are different. Do you see yourself as stronger in developing ideas, or with putting ideas into action? Are you more comfortable working with a team, or handling a responsibility alone? And how will you organize things to commit the necessary time?
I feel like I am more of an ideator – to borrow a word I heard once. I tend to see the possibilities in people and situations, believing things can be better. Sometimes this can be a fault when it clouds the realities before me. So I try to stay mindful of that and take the present circumstances into account, too. Teams are made of individuals. Obvious, I know, but that is how I see my role in life, really. I am an individual, I’m OK working alone. But we are also part of something larger, so I have no problem working with others in my team, too. My involvement in many groups and organizations growing up has made me a bit of a time juggler. I have no problem moving things around to accommodate something I strongly believe in like ACES.
